Elope in Miami - Featuring the Design District
Miami's Design District is hands-down one of the coolest spots that we've got in Florida. It's a neighborhood filled with restaurants, shopping, constant entertainment, interesting architecture, and most notably, contemporary art that's actually engaging to look at. Even the parking garages here have won awards– did you even know there were awards for that kind of stuff??
So for those considering different options of where to elope, I hope this serves you well in imagining what your elopement might look like in the Design District! Let's begin:
WONDERING WHERE TO DO THE DAMN THING?
If you want to get married on the beach, there are plenty of beaches for you to choose from! Different sands, different vibes, and different restrictions on what decorations you're allowed to use, if you want any flowers or chairs for family and friends. (Would you be interested in a blog post on different beaches to tie the knot? Let me know in the comments below and I'll take you on a tour of Miami's coastline!)
If you're looking for a more urban elopement, though, the Design District itself is the way to go. There are too many aesthetic cafés, restaurants, and bars to name, in addition to rooftop gardens, event spaces, and, yes, parking garages! You can find wedding license information from the county here.
Miami's weather, as you might've guessed, is hot. Almost always. We live in a tropical climate, which has a very loose definition of the word "seasons". The summer is a popular time to get married, but is the most unreliable if you're hoping for an outdoor wedding– between our daily summer storms and the worst of hurricane season, it's best to have an indoor backup plan in case of inclement weather.
If you're hoping for that tropical feel, though, no worries– it will still be nice and warm enough for strappy sandals April and May, as well as in September and October. March and November are more transitional months, where it's a little chilly for us Floridians, but the only months that could be considered "cold" are December-February (and for reference- a Miami winter averages at about 60°F)!
WHERE TO STAY

Wondering about the little details from a traditional wedding that you still might want to incorporate into your elopement? A bouquet, a wedding arch, seating for a handful of guests? Here are just a few recommendations that could help you create the Design District elopement of your dreams!
This gorgeous dried bouquet by Posh Petals Miami is one of my favorite bouquets I've ever photographed! I can't wait for the next time I get to see (and smell) Teresa's lovely work!
No matter where in the city your elopement takes place- Mi Vintage will have rentals to match your vibe. I'm a little obsessed with all that Liz's company has to offer! Look here for micro-wedding packages including tables + seating, arches, bars, and more!
TRANSPORTATION IN THE CITY
Miami's public transit is.... pretty poor. We have a bus system, but you're not going to want to rely on it to get where you want to go, especially during your wedding weekend! Ubers are usually the most reliable form of transportation, or if you have the patience to deal with street parking (bless you), then rent a car for your stay! And if you want to travel in style, I recommend renting from Turo.
One of the best parts of big city life is the food scene, and Miami's restaurants are no exception! We've got pretty much anything you could ask for, and the most authentic Cuban cuisine you'll find in the States. But locals agree that these two spots are the top must do's near the Design District:
Michael's Genuine Food & Drink is a staple in the area, attracting locals and tourists alike in flocks! They opened here back in 2007 and have consistently brought in foodies thanks to their seasonal ingredients, laid-back atmosphere, and famous oysters!
Wynwood Brewery is Miami's very first craft production brewery, and their beers complement the flavor, style, and heat of the city! You can bring the family along to relax while the adults enjoy the beers, and also schedule a private tour if you're interested. They have snacks and sometimes food trucks on the weekends!
And remember all that fuss about parking garages? Here's a little sneak peek of just one of the cool ones in town (a favorite of mine!)
