Get In Touch
Think that couples portraits are just for the newly engaged? Think again! Leo and Jimmy reached out to me to photograph a Hoh Rainforest adventure session starting at a beautiful Airbnb location. They wanted a fun, personal, casual shoot that reflected their life together as they slowly approached a year of being engaged! And you can do the same — adventure sessions are made for simply documenting the current chapter you’re in, celebrating what makes you and your partner special, and having some fun. No life-changing events required (though of course you should celebrate those with a session, too)!
Leonalyn (Leo) & Jimmy
In 2015, Leo and Jimmy met at a climbing gym! By 2019, Jimmy knew he wanted to propose, but his plans got derailed several times! Throughout the pandemic, he planned multiple elaborate proposals, and finally was able to pop the question in 2021.Â
For their adventure session, Leo and Jimmy decided they did want to celebrate their engagement, too, so they planned one outfit for their session that was a bit dressier. For the other, they picked more casual looks that reflected their everyday personalities. This is a great way to do an adventure session, too! Celebrating both the milestone of getting engaged, and the simple joy of being together, was the perfect way to spend the day.

Adventure Session in the Hoh Rainforest
For their adventure session, I found this Airbnb listing that both Leo and Jimmy loved! The creek in the backyard, the hammock, and the loft made this such a great space for a shoot, and a little getaway in a truly beautiful Washington location.Â
The Hoh Rainforest (in Olympic National Park) is one of the largest temperate rainforests in the US. You’ll find plant and tree life here that you can’t see anywhere else! Places like this are why I love living in the Pacific Northwest.

To make their adventure session in the Hoh Rainforest even more special, Leo and Jimmy brought their trusty camp chairs with them to use as props, which turned out to be such a cute way to capture these two in their natural element! Props can often be cheesy, but I always recommend bringing along something that feels like you. In addition to their camp chairs, Leo and Jimmy also chopped some wood together during their session, which was silly, fun, and one of my favorite parts of the day.
My best suggestion for incorporating props is to think about what items are part of your life together with your partner that you’d especially like to remember. Do you play the ukulele? Take pictures of each other on a polaroid camera? Have a favorite beer you enjoy together? Read books with one another? Any of these are perfect to bring along to your session!
I hope Leo and Jimmy’s adventure session gives you lots of inspiration for your own shoot!
