A two-day Leavenworth adventure wedding with rock climbing, a bright blue alpine lake, and a cozy Airbnb reception—this was my kinda celebration, for sure! Maddie and Kevin planned the most epic experience that blended all the best parts of both weddings and elopements, truly taking everything they wanted from both and leaving out the rest. What a gift it was to be able to explore the stunning Leavenworth area with Maddie, Kevin, and their closest loved ones, from the towering rocks of Icicle Creek to the sparkling waters of Colchuck Lake; every moment was just as magical as the love these two share.

Why have a multi-day elopement?

Before we dive into the details of Maddie and Kevin’s once-in-a-lifetime adventure around some of the prettiest parts of Washington, I wanted to quickly tell you about my love for multi-day elopements—and why I think every couple should consider having one!

Sure, you can make a LOT happen in a day; after all, that’s what traditional weddings are for, right? Having an all-day celebration filled with toasts, speeches, meals, dancing, your ceremony. . . all that jazz packed into one, unforgettable day. Except here’s the thing: one day will never be enough to have the celebration you deserve, especially if you’ve decided to elope and want to prioritize yourselves + what you want to do.

Two-day elopements are perfect for incorporating everything you love doing together, and everything that would make your celebration phenomenal—without having to cram it all into one 12-15 hour period. They’re a dream for couples who want to include long hikes, like the one Maddie and Kevin took; for couples who want to celebrate in a way that never feels rushed, that never gives you a chance to “fall behind schedule;” for couples who value slowness and intentionality in a way that single-day celebrations don’t allow. Celebrations like these are especially great when you want to celebrate with a big group one day, and have another day all to yourselves, just like Maddie and Kevin!

If you’re intrigued by the idea of a two-day elopement but aren’t quite sure how to structure your timeline, worry not—that’s exactly what I’m here for. We’ll figure it out together once you reach out and tell me all the details of what you’re envisioning!

Day 1: A rock climbing adventure in Icicle Creek

Alright, enough of my little spiel—moving onto the first part of Maddie and Kevin’s magical Leavenworth adventure wedding!

The first day of their quest to explore all the most beautiful parts of Leavenworth was spent doing one of their favorite activities to do together: rock climbing. After all, Leavenworth is home to some of the best climbing routes in the PNW, all of which are located amidst breathtaking alpine landscapes and jaw-dropping scenery of the Central Cascades at every turn.

Of the many different crags and climbing spots around Leavenworth, Maddie and Kevin chose to venture into the Icicle Creek area for their ceremony + post-ceremony rappelling adventure. They tied the knot atop a gorgeous overlook in the mountains, where they were surrounded by nothing but dreamy alpine views, lush green foliage, and massive boulders that perfectly framed the little spot that served as their “altar.” Anne Timss did a fab job with Maddie’s makeup, keeping her bridal look natural to fit the outdoorsy vibes, but elevating it with just a touch of glam.

After their ceremony, it was time for the climb! It was so cute and sweet watching everybody participate in the climbing, not just Maddie and Kevin themselves. Most of their guests had never tried it before, so while the little ones went off to tackle some easy boulders, most of the adults tried their hand at the big wall—and were happily humbled by how difficult it was. Everyone was so impressed with Maddie and Kevin, who were oh-so-casually just running up all the walls as if it were the easiest thing on the planet! Capturing them rappelling down together was such a blast and seriously turned out with the most epic images.

After Maddie and Kevin headed back to their cute airbnb to change (at Fox Lodge– what a great space!) they met their guests at 97 Rock House for an intimate venue-style reception, complete with a delish (and gorgeous) cake, dinner, the works. Speeches like the ones their loved ones gave are so lovely at elopements, because they’re less about performing for a crowd and more like love letters from your favorite people. So, so special seeing this group laugh, smile, and celebrate together!

Day 2: Private wedding portraits at Colchuck Lake

I love how Maddie and Kevin were able to give themselves the best of both the wedding and elopement worlds, picking and choosing what elements of each would work best for them—and not forcing themselves to simply decide on one or the other. Day two was spent going on an adventure to Colchuck Lake, where they got engaged; it felt so right to return to this spot for a part of their wedding. This day was more for themselves to enjoy a private adventure with their parents, with perfect weather, spectacular views, and even an icy dip in the lake for Kevin. The memories of their past hikes to this incredible spot made it such a special day! 2200 feet in elevation gain over 4 miles has never looked THIS good.

Colchuck Lake is a personal favorite destination of mine, so I put together a full Colchuck Lake Elopement Guide for ya. You’re welcome 😉
