About Sun Mountain Lodge
Where is Sun Mountain Lodge?
Nestled in the heart of north-central Washington’s Methow Valley, Sun Mountain Lodge is a luxury resort providing unforgettable experiences to every guest who steps foot on the 1,500-acre property. With easy access to the stunning Patterson Lake, the iconic (and underrated) North Cascades National Park, and endless outdoor adventures in the valley, this upscale lodge is the perfect blend of lavish and laid-back: one moment you could be enjoying a lavish spa treatment, and the next you could be climbing up a scenic summit in the Methow Valley.
I think the quickest way to give you a glimpse into what this lodge has to offer is to share the description given to it by the Lonely Planet: a “recreational fantasyland.” Just to give you a glimpse at all the outdoor adventures that are available at and near the lodge: Sun Mountain Lodge offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, skiing, rock climbing, fly fishing, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, golfing, and more. There are miles and miles of trails, and when the wildflowers are blooming, everything somehow becomes even more magical. Sounds like the dream for anybody who adores spending time outdoors, and wants to incorporate that passion into their wedding, yes?

How to Get to Sun Mountain Lodge
If you or any of your guests will be flying to Washington for your wedding, you have a couple of options: fly into a major airport like SeaTac or Spokane International Airport, then drive around 4 hours to Winthrop, or you could find a connecting flight to Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee, which is about 2 hours from Winthrop. Both the Seattle and Spokane airports offer direct flights to Wenatchee, but flights from Seattle are often much cheaper.
Driving to Winthrop from other areas of Washington is fairly easy, since you’ll basically just be driving along State Route 20 (aka the North Cascades Scenic Byway) for the majority of the time!

Why Have Your Wedding at Sun Mountain Lodge?
Aside from its prime location amidst the gorgeous mountain valleys of Washington and its infinite outdoor excursions, Sun Mountain Lodge is an all-around incredible place to spend your time in the Winthrop area. Their goal is to be your “home away from home,” with a variety of premier amenities including a luxury spa, elevated dining options, and a gorgeous selection of suites. With years of experience as a wedding venue, the staff at Sun Mountain Lodge also knows what they’re doing when it comes to hosting incredible events, and offers a wide array of top-tier wedding amenities and services. From the collection of jaw-dropping wedding sites (both indoor and outdoor) to catering provided by the on-site, award-winning restaurant (as well as a wine cellar with over 3,000 bottles of local Washington wines), you’ll have no trouble curating the day of your dreams at Sun Mountain!

Sun Mountain Lodge Wedding Venues
One of the best parts about getting married at Sun Mountain Lodge is that you have not just one or two venues to choose from, but a whopping eight! Here’s a little info about each of the venues to help you figure out which one(s) may be best for your unique day.
The Bluff
Indoor/outdoor: Outdoor
Max guest count: 300
Best for: Ceremonies
The Bluff is one of my favorite venues at Sun Mountain Lodge, boasting some of the best views of the Methow Valley that you can get from the lodge. This gorgeous lawn setting offers couples the opportunity to tie the knot in front of sweeping mountain scenery, and is extremely flexible to fit groups of any size!

Pasayten Room
Indoor/outdoor: Both
Max guest count: 200 in each room; 400 total
Best for: Receptions
Want more of an elegant ballroom vibe? Pasayten A and Pasayten B combine to create the property’s largest ballroom, a luxurious setting with a beautiful foyer, a landscaped courtyard, and a cozy outdoor patio. Great for receptions of any size, whether you’re having a small group of 10 friends or a big party of up to 400!
Upper Lawn
Indoor/outdoor: Outdoor
Max guest count: 250
Best for: Cocktail parties, ceremonies, receptions
The Upper Lawn is an enchanting outdoor setting with large tents, dreamy lake views, and the ability to accommodate gatherings of any size. It’s a beautiful spot to mingle with your guests during cocktail hour, say your vows at sunset, or toast to your love during your reception as the stars come out.

Methow Room
Indoor/outdoor: Indoor
Max guest count: 56
Best for: Rehearsal dinners, intimate receptions
I would say the Methow Room is one that’s better for meetings and other types of gatherings, but you could definitely use it for your rehearsal dinner or intimate reception. It’s got a warm, inviting ambiance with a stone fireplace, beautiful views, and a private 1,400 square foot deck.
Library
Indoor/outdoor: Indoor
Max guest count: 12
Best for: Intimate ceremonies and receptions, portraits
A great spot for cozy newlywed portraits! While the Library isn’t a full-on reception space (more fit for intimate cocktail hours or even a very small ceremony), it’s an enchanting little room for some romantic portraits, featuring floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a wood-burning fireplace, and an overall magical atmosphere.
The Wine Cellar
Indoor/outdoor: Indoor
Max guest count: 14
Best for: Small rehearsal dinners
If you’re looking for a unique setting for your wedding rehearsal dinner, the Wine Cellar is a really cool option—you’ll feel like you’re in a European cave cellar rather than the mountains of Washington State. The cellar has a gorgeous cherry wood dining table, warm ambient lighting, and, of course, delicious wines to enjoy; perfect for an intimate celebration the night before the big day.
The Lookout
Indoor/outdoor: Indoor
Max guest count: 50
Best for: Intimate ceremonies
Just a short walk from the main lodge is the Lookout, one of the newer venues on the property only completed recently in early 2024. This gorgeous, secluded venue boasts phenomenal views from the massive windows, and a super cozy, rustic-cabin-in-the-woods vibe that you’ll fall in love with immediately.
Patterson Lake Green
Indoor/outdoor: Outdoor
Max guest count: 150
Best for: Ceremonies, receptions
The ideal spot for a lakeside celebration! It’s secluded, scenic, and nestled right in a grassy aspen grove—what more could you want? Located on the green is a collection of adorable lake cabins, which your party can reserve if you’d like to have the entire property to yourselves.

Best Time of Year to Get Married at Sun Mountain Lodge
One of the great things about Sun Mountain Lodge is that it has both indoor and outdoor wedding venue options, so you could absolutely get married here at any time of year. The “best” time for you really depends on what kind of vibe you’re going for, as well as the types of activities you’d like to participate in: do you want to go skiing or hiking? Have a cozy winter celebration or a vibrant summer soirée? See the wildflowers at their peak bloom or experience the colorful shades of fall in the Methow Valley?
Once you figure out what type of atmosphere you’d like to create for your wedding, as well as what kinds of experiences you’re craving, then you can figure out which season in Winthrop will fit best. Generally, the best weather for activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking will be late spring and early fall, when temperatures aren’t super hot or cold. You’ll also want to take wildfires into account, since unfortunately, the eastern part of the North Cascades have seen quite a lot of wildfires in recent years, and this can impact your ability to access roads & trails.

Where to Stay Near Sun Mountain Lodge
Sun Mountain Lodge offers a variety of luxurious accommodation options, ranging from spacious suites with sweeping views of the Methow Valley to cozy one-bedroom cabins for a little more privacy. While the main lodge itself is fabulous as a place to stay, they also offer a variety of cabins right on Patterson Lake that feel a bit more secluded! If you’re having an intimate wedding and would like to stay close to your guests, the Grand Suites are great options, as they can each sleep up to 8-11 people and you still get access to all the amenities at Sun Mountain Lodge. Alternatively, you and your love may prefer to stay in a one-bedroom suite with all the same cozy cabin vibes, nestled right on the lake with plenty of privacy.
P.S. If you want to bring your pup(s) along for the celebration, the Patterson Lake Cabins are dog-friendly; the lodge even has special doggy beds they’ll provide you with, as well as crates and food/water bowls that you can rent!

Sun Mountain Lodge Wedding Packages
Sun Mountain Lodge currently does not list any wedding packages or pricing info on their website, so you can fill out a request for proposal to get a custom quote for your special day. According to Wedding Wire, packages typically range from $3,000-$12,000—but again, I’d reach out to get specific numbers because that may not be up-to-date or accurate for the type of celebration you’re planning!
